£1299Capture portraits with beautiful depth-of-field effects, moody low-light landscapes and expressive travel shots with the new SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art for L-Mount and Sony E-mount mirrorless systems. The bright F1.2 aperture, reliable auto focus and lightweight construction make it a versatile photographic tool to use in any situation. Designed with 13 rounded diaphragm blades and optics that effectively reduce aberrations, the SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art produces ultra sharp images with outstanding bokeh. Its weight of 745g*, compact size and internal focus system with dual HLA motors allow for rapid and reliable focus for both still and video. Perfect for use on lightweight gimbal setups.
*L-Mount specification
The lens has been optimised through its optical construction and focus group arrangements to significantly suppress focus breathing. Focus shift is also minimised, creating a natural focus shift look when recording video. Flare and ghosting are also effectively reduced, even when shooting in heavily backlit environments such as street and event photography.
Designed to be used anytime, anywhere, the SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art has been constructed using new design techniques and technology to produce an incredibly lightweight and portable lens. Perfect for photographers who require lightweight kit without compromising on quality.

Effortlessly and reliably focus on your subject thanks to the newly revised focusing system. The lens features a floating focusing system that uses dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motors. The use of these motors reduces the lens’s size without compromising performance. Focusing is fast, quiet and accurate, perfect for every situation.Â
By precisely controlling the configuration of multiple magnets, the HLA provides sufficient thrust to quickly move the lens’s large-diameter focus elements, while achieving an approximate 25% reduction in unit thickness from the previous HLA design as well as a 44% reduction in total weight.
By utilising state-of-the-art production technology at SIGMA’s manufacturing base in Aizu, Japan, each glass element has been reduced in size whilst retaining elements with a high refractive index. Four aspherical glass elements and a floating focus system are also implemented to further reduce the lens’s overall size and effectively reduce aberrations. These reductions make the SIGMA 50mm F1.2 DG DN | Art the lightest lens in its class, with a weight of 745g*. It is 30% lighter than the SIGMA 35mm F1.2 DG DN | Art which shares the same aperture.
* L-Mount specification. As an AF 50mm F1.2 interchangeable lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. (As of March 2024 by SIGMA)
AFL Button
Customisable button that can perform various functions.
Aperture ring
With a click/de-click switch and a lock switch.
Aperture ring click switch
Switch between smooth and clickable aperture ring control.
Focus ring
A large, rubberised ring with a smooth action. Focusing is internal.
Dust and splash resistant
Constructed using TSC materials and weather sealed at strategic points.
Petal-type lens hood
Cuts down on flare while limiting vignetting.
The lens is equipped with an AFL button which can be assigned to a range of functions via the camera menu on supported cameras. L-Mount users can customise the button further using the UD-11 USB Dock. Effortlessly control the depth-of-field using the built-in aperture control ring and make your images stand out from the crowd. The aperture ring lock switch prevents the ring from accidental knocks. Use the aperture click switch to turn the click of the aperture ring on or off. Ideal for when shooting video and quiet scenes.
In addition to a dust and splash resistant structure, the front element of the lens features a water and oil repellent coating, allowing photographers to shoot without concern even in harsh outdoor environments.
A dedicated petal-shaped hood is also supplied. A secure locking mechanism is provided for easy attachment and removal.
* The structure is designed to be dust and splash resistant, but not waterproof. Be careful not to bring the lens in contact with a large amount of water. Water inside the lens may cause major damage and even render the lens unrepairable.
Choose from two amazing SIGMA lenses, both with F1.2 apertures that are ideal for characterful portraits, creative street shots and stunning low-light compositions. Choose the 50mm F1.2 for a classic look that closely resembles human vision. It makes composing images a breeze whilst keeping facial features looking natural. With its wider field-of-view, the 35mm F1.2 is ideal for environmental portraits and can double-up as a wide-angle street or architectural lens.

All Sigma cameras and lenses are designed, manufactured and assembled at our sole factory at Aizu in Japan. This domestic production model is unusual in today’s industry, with most imaging companies opting to outsource to other countries to reduce costs. But SIGMA believes that keeping virtually all manufacturing, processing and assembly in Aizu is essential for creating innovative, carefully thought-out and impeccably constructed products that meet the high standards demanded by professional photographers and film-makers around the world.
Sigma chose Aizu as its main production base in the early 1970s. Situated at the base of Mount Bandai in the Fukushima Prefecture, about four hours’ drive north of Tokyo, Aizu has an abundance of very clean water from mountain streams, which is essential for grinding and polishing lenses. Sigma’s founder, Michihiro Yamaki, was also drawn to this area for its workforce, who have a reputation for their craftsmanship, work ethic and attention to detail. Mr Yamaki’s son, Kazuto Yamaki, now the owner and CEO of SIGMA Corporation, has the same unwavering commitment to keeping production in Japan.
Today Sigma’s factory is more than 50,000 square feet in size, and packed full of some of the most advanced optical manufacturing technology in existence. So when you buy a Sigma camera or lens you can be sure that virtually every single component part has been manufactured and assembled by SIGMA, in Japan, with the greatest level of care and attention. We hope you enjoy using our products.
If you want to see how a particular SIGMA lens or camera performs, why not test drive it with our SIGMA Select hire service. Available for selected SIGMA lenses, short-term loans are free of charge (including shipping), with a small fee if you want to test it for longer. Refundable deposit required. A special coating applied to the front element to help repel water and oil.
This suppresses flare and ghosting by minimising reflections within the lens, ensuring punchy, high-contrast results. All lenses in the current Sigma range feature this technology.
Internal focus or an inner focus system means the lens configuration uses movable internal lens elements that adjust focus without changing the length of the lens barrel. This helps keep the centre of gravity of the lens more constant when changing focus.
The lens has an image circle large enough to be used on a full-frame camera. It can also be used on cameras with a smaller ‘crop’ sensor, provided the mount is compatible.
The mount is the part of the lens that attaches to the camera body. A coated brass mount is used for strength, and is surrounded by a rubber seal to keep out dust and moisture.
Found on the barrel of some Sigma lenses, the AFL button can be assigned to various functions to widen the range of operations available on the lens (available functions depend on the camera model).
This switch toggles between autofocus and manual focus.
The diaphragm is constructed of 11 rounded blades for a circular aperture opening and round out-of-focus highlights.
