£1179SIGMA’s flagship lens has evolved. Introducing the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art for L-Mount and Sony E-mount mirrorless systems. The lens has been fully redesigned to take advantage of the latest technologies and includes an improved AF motor, SIGMA’s HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) for high-speed AF and improved image quality throughout the entire zoom range. In addition to the internal improvements, the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art features a built-in aperture ring to control the depth of field of your images and AFL function buttons that can be programmed for increased control. These professional features are packed into a lens that is approximately 7% smaller and 10% lighter than the previous model. With a weight of 745g* and impressive close focusing distance of 17cm, the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is a lightweight all-round lens that allows photographers and filmmakers unlock their creative potential.
*L-Mount specification
By taking advantage of the latest optical design technologies, the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art has improved optical performance and increased resolution throughout the entire zoom range, ideal for use on modern high-resolution mirrorless cameras. Capture the world in stunning detail using the F2.8 aperture and impressive close-up focusing distance of 17cm to produce images with beautifully soft bokeh and pleasing background separation. These features paired with its fantastic low-light ability creates an ideal lens for using in any situation.
The lens has excellent close-up capability with a minimum focusing distance of 17cm at the wide end and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7. This is useful when composing close-up shots of a subject, or when shooting in locations where space is limited.
Flare and ghosting have been largely eliminated thanks to the use of special Nano Porous and Super Multi-layer Coatings applied to the front optic of the lens. The lens’s optical construction provides strong backlight resistance for clear and sharp images under any lighting conditions.
The lens has been designed to suppress focus breathing. The change in angle-of-view due to focus shift across the entire zoom range is minimised, creating natural-looking focus pulls when recording video.
To bring the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art in line with recent developments found on other SIGMA lenes, the lens now includes a de-clickable aperture ring, aperture lock switch and two customisable AFL buttons. Even with these additional features, the lens is approximately 7% smaller in size and 10% lighter than its predecessor.
The lens is equipped with a de-clickable aperture ring that provides direct control of the aperture when capturing stills and adjusting exposure on the fly when shooting video. An aperture lock switch is also provided to prevent accidental changes.Â
* L-Mount specification. As an AF 50mm F1.2 interchangeable lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. (As of March 2024 by SIGMA)
Thanks to advancements in optical design and lens construction, the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art has been reduced in size by approximately 7% and in weight by 10%. With a length of 120.2mm and weighing only 745g*, the lens can be used in any photographic situation and easily transported. Perfect for photographers who require lightweight kit without compromising image quality.
The lens is equipped with two AFL buttons* that can be assigned to a range of functions via the menu on compatible cameras, one more than the previous version of the lens. The additional button has been positioned on the top of the lens barrel so that it can be easily accessed when shooting portraits.

All Sigma cameras and lenses are designed, manufactured and assembled at our sole factory at Aizu in Japan. This domestic production model is unusual in today’s industry, with most imaging companies opting to outsource to other countries to reduce costs. But SIGMA believes that keeping virtually all manufacturing, processing and assembly in Aizu is essential for creating innovative, carefully thought-out and impeccably constructed products that meet the high standards demanded by professional photographers and film-makers around the world.
Sigma chose Aizu as its main production base in the early 1970s. Situated at the base of Mount Bandai in the Fukushima Prefecture, about four hours’ drive north of Tokyo, Aizu has an abundance of very clean water from mountain streams, which is essential for grinding and polishing lenses. Sigma’s founder, Michihiro Yamaki, was also drawn to this area for its workforce, who have a reputation for their craftsmanship, work ethic and attention to detail. Mr Yamaki’s son, Kazuto Yamaki, now the owner and CEO of SIGMA Corporation, has the same unwavering commitment to keeping production in Japan.
Today Sigma’s factory is more than 50,000 square feet in size, and packed full of some of the most advanced optical manufacturing technology in existence. So when you buy a Sigma camera or lens you can be sure that virtually every single component part has been manufactured and assembled by SIGMA, in Japan, with the greatest level of care and attention. We hope you enjoy using our products.
If you want to see how a particular SIGMA lens or camera performs, why not test drive it with our SIGMA Select hire service. A special coating applied to the front element to help repel water and oil.
This suppresses flare and ghosting by minimising reflections within the lens, ensuring punchy, high-contrast results. All lenses in the current Sigma range feature this technology.
Internal focus or an inner focus system means the lens configuration uses movable internal lens elements that adjust focus without changing the length of the lens barrel. This helps keep the centre of gravity of the lens more constant when changing focus.
The lens has an image circle large enough to be used on a full-frame camera. It can also be used on cameras with a smaller ‘crop’ sensor, provided the mount is compatible.
The mount is the part of the lens that attaches to the camera body. A coated brass mount is used for strength, and is surrounded by a rubber seal to keep out dust and moisture.
Found on the barrel of some Sigma lenses, the AFL button can be assigned to various functions to widen the range of operations available on the lens (available functions depend on the camera model).
This switch toggles between autofocus and manual focus.
The diaphragm is constructed of 11 rounded blades for a circular aperture opening and round out-of-focus highlights.
