The Red Squirrel Photography Workshop in Hawes, North Yorkshire, allows photographers to capture both static and action shots of red squirrels in one session. From moss-covered tree stumps and fallen logs to attractive pine trees and lichen-covered dry stone walls, the workshop provides the opportunity to create a varied portfolio of red squirrel images.
SIGMA Ambassador Paul Fowlie will be on hand to mentor you whilst taking images of these elusive animals.
Using various locations in a private, openly planted woodland, participants can move around the trees, walls, and attractive perches to make the best use of the light and obtain standout images.

For taking images of the Red Squirrels, we recommend bringing a telephoto lens such as a 70-200mm, 100-400mm or 150-600mm. For closer shots a short telephoto zoom such as an 24-70mm is recommended. Paul will be on hand with a selection of SIGMA lenses on the day. Lenses and available mounts will vary.
Paul Fowlie is a renowned UK wildlife photographer, especially known for his work with red squirrels. He owns a reserve in North Yorkshire and has a rich history of photographing wildlife, initially starting with landscapes in the Lake District and Glencoe. Now based in the Yorkshire Dales, Paul runs red squirrel photography hides and various wildlife workshops in the UK and abroad, including in Scandinavia, Holland, and the Arctic Circle.
There is a seven minute walk down hill, it can be wet after rain so walking boots required. May not be suitable for wheelchair users.Â

No. Please bring whatever camera and lens system you are using, there is no obligation to use our kit however a range of Sigma optics will be available for you try to out if you wish.
Some basic knowledge of photography will be useful, however photographers of all skill levels are welcome on the workshop.
The minimum age to attend this workshop is 16.
We would always try to accommodate cancellations and refunds where possible. Depending on the type of workshop offered, we may not be able to issue a refund if the number of participants is reduced so that the workshop can not proceed.
