Sigma UK is proud to be supporting Ripple Africa, a charity that provides “a hand UP and not a hand out”. For every lens we sell in 2025 we will donate to help environmental conservation projects throughout Malawi, Africa.

Ripple Africa’s aim is to empower local communities and engaging them in sustainable practices such as fishing conservation, tree planting and farming conservation. They also run small scale educational and healthcare projects to teach and inspire generations to come. Read on to find out more and how you can get involved.

Tree planting is not only beneficial for the planet, but also for the local communities and animals that call the forest their home. Every lens Sigma sells will plant a tree in Malawi. These trees will help protect and restore the forest, help capture CO2 and prevent soil erosion. Local farmers also plant trees as a sustainable source of timber for local people. Additionally, the fund used to plant tree are also used to train farmers how to plant and care for fruit trees, improving health and helping provide an income selling any surplus fruit.

Since its inception 2003, Ripple Africa has grown, employing 903 staff and working with 15,000 local volunteers on projects throughout Malawi.

Fish conservation project have protected 736km of shoreline, improved fishing practices and protecting fish breeding sites. Educational projects that span pre-school to secondary education have built 15 schools, creating fun spaces to learn, play and be part of a community. Healthcare projects provide vital therapy and rehabilitation services to disabled children and adults and much more.
