The Sigma 17–40mm F1.8 DC Art is the world’s first F1.8 zoom for crop sensor mirrorless cameras. It builds on the highly successful 18–35mm F1.8 DC Art for crop sensor DSLRs, which became the lens of choice for pro photographers and film-makers needing both speed and optical excellence without sacrificing versatility. The lens improves on the 18–35mm with an aperture ring (control ring on Canon RF version), superior optical performance, increased zoom range and a 30% reduction in weight.
The full-frame equivalent focal length is roughly 26–60mm (assuming 1.5x crop), making the lens ideal for a very wide range of photographic applications. The internal zoom and focusing mean the lens can be used on a gimbal without the need to rebalance when zooming in or out.
All four mounts are optically identical, although the Canon RF Mount version has a control ring instead of a dedicated aperture ring, and the FUJIFILM X Mount version has slightly different AF switch functionality. The lenses are fully compatible with all four camera systems with extremely rapid AF thanks to Sigma’s fast and quiet HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) focusing system.
