Yes, MCS is available to convert SIGMA SA / Canon EF / Nikon F / Sony A / Sony E / Pentax PA mount lenses to L-Mount.

We offer MCS at a more reasonable service fee to users who would like to convert their SA mount lenses to L-Mount, in comparison to the services for other mounts.

This is to show our appreciation to SA mount users for their support to our brand thus far and to reduce user-charges for them.

Operating Method

A

For L-Mount, it is possible to customize the OS effect and the focus limiter distance to suit your shooting style and assign these settings to either Custom Mode switch C1 or C2. This is done via the SIGMA USB DOCK UD-11 (available separately) and the dedicated SIGMA Optimization Pro software (free to download). For Sony E-mount, the OS effect is assigned to Custom Mode switch OFF, C1 and C2 respectively.

Custom Mode switch default settings
OFF: Standard
The OS effect is well-balanced and suitable for a wide variety of scenes.
C1: Dynamic View Mode
This mode offers a recognizable OS effect to the image in the viewfinder. This helps to ensure the composition of images quickly.
C2: Moderate View Mode
This mode is quickly able to ascertain the difference between fine composition adjustment and unwanted camera shake. It provides a natural and smooth viewfinder image even when composition is changed rapidly.

A

On the L-Mount version of the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Sports, it is possible to customize a focus limiter distance via the SIGMA USB DOCK UD-11 (sold separately) and SIGMA Optimization Software. The focus limiter setting can then be assigned to the Custom Mode switch C1 or C2.
※Function available on SIGMA fp and fp L(it is necessary to update the camera’s firmware)

1. Select a focusing distance of your choice on the slider.
※Default setting is 10m but you can increase or decrease this distance as desired.
2. Assign the selected focusing distance to C1 or C2.
3. Once you have assigned two different custom focusing distances to C1 and C2 respectively, use the Focus Limiter switch to change between them.

For example;
C1: 8m (shorter distance than 10m)
C2: 20m (longer distance than 10m)

Custom Mode switch OFF
Limiter switch Full: From minimum to infinity in the range of (A)
Limiter switch 10m-∞: From 10m to infinity in the range of (C)
Limiter switch ・-10m: From minimum to 10m in the range of (B)

Custom Mode switch C1
Limiter switch Full: From minimum to infinity in the range of (A)
Limiter switch 10m-∞: From 8m to infinity in the range of (C’)
Limiter switch ・-10m: From minimum to 8m in the range of (B’)

Custom Mode switch C2
Limiter switch Full: From minimum to infinity in the range of (A)
Limiter switch 10m-∞: From 20m to infinity in the range of (C”)
Limiter switch ・-10m: From minimum to 20m in the range of (B”)

A

When shooting Starscape photography, a belt-shaped or linear lens heater wrapped around the front lens may be used to prevent night dew and condensation inside the lens.

The lip provided at the front of the lens is called a ‘heater retainer’, and it ensures that a lens heater does not protrude over the front element of the lens which otherwise would cause vignetting.

A

When the MFL switch is set to the LOCK position, the focus ring operation is disabled, but AF operation is possible. So please check if the setting is set to AF.

Also, even with the MF setting, there are some camera bodies that temporarily operate AF by operating the AF-ON button, so please check the camera body settings.

A

If you use a low profile filter, such as a SIGMA filter, there will be no vignetting.

Product Information

A

Named the L-Mount Alliance, this is a partnership of an unprecedented nature that particularly benefits customers who use the partner companies’ products. This alliance allows Panasonic and SIGMA to develop their respective products using the L-Mount standard initially developed by Leica and offer cameras and lenses using this lens mount.

L-Mount Alliance official website: https://l-mount.com/

A

We have stopped developing SA mount cameras.

A

Panasonic, Leica and SIGMA are companies who has their own philosophies and strengths. We believe that products developed on this platform makes this alliance and L-mount system unique and attractive than ever. SIGMA is ready to contribute with its advanced technologies and lens line-up to offer greater extensibility to the users who owns SIGMA lenses for SLR system. We have been seeing ourselves to be part of the FF mirrorless camera system. Besides revealing specific visions and aims, SIGMA always prioritizes the goal of offering higher quality, better performance and innovative products as well as superior service. Therefore, it will be our great honour if we would be considered as a brand that photography enthusiasts trust the most.

A

We do not say it is completely closed system between Leica, Panasonic and SIGMA only, but at the same time not completely an open standard without any conditions. There is no further information at the moment.

A

Short flange back, large diameter & remarkable durability and versatile communication between lenses and cameras are the highlights of the L-mount.

  • Short flange back: It not only realizes smaller camera size but also unleashes certain limitations in lens design, especially for wide angle lenses, the short flange back enable the possibility to design smaller lenses with superior optical performance.
  • Large diameter and remarkable durability: L-MOUNT has an effective diameter of 51.6mm that can take in sufficient light. Thanks to the four-tab bayonet structure making this large diameter mount even stronger to achieve reliable durability.
  • Versatile communication: This feature can be considered as the most crucial reason why SIGMA joined this alliance. In the mirrorless system, a smooth and high-speed communication between lenses and cameras, especially via mount converters, is more important than the data for communication itself.
A

L-Mount has an effective diameter of 51.6mm that can take in sufficient light for not only an APS-C but also a full-frame sensor. Combined with the remarkable durability thanks to the four-tab bayonet structure which is strong enough to support even heavy telephoto zoom lenses and a short flange distance of 20mm, this mount system is future-proof with a superior communication advantage that is flexible and full of potential.

A

Compared to conventional mirrorless mounts, L-Mount is a future-proof mount system which has a large diameter, robustness with 4-tab bayonet, and a mount that allows smooth and versatile communication between lenses and cameras. It will be compatible with a wide variety of interchangeable lenses, and even via a mount converter, high-speed and stable communication will be ensured.

A

The L-Mount Alliance let each company in this alliance utilize the L-Mount system and develop and manufacture own products which incorporate the L-Mount.

A

Panasonic and Leica have been in the long term partnership, and Panasonic and SIGMA have been having a regular communication through Micro 4/3 system. Panasonic being a middleman, the three companies which have their own established position and strengths that help them stand out from each other got together. Panasonic has high level of technologies in fields such as digitalization of cameras including autofocus and optical stabilization system. Leica has such high reliability and brand value proven by its long history and tradition. SIGMA, with its high level of product development and mass production system, has established an unique position in the industry for delivering a high performance lens line-up and cameras. The three companies are competitors who manufacture and sell cameras and lenses. However, when we consider each company’s standing point and strengths, there are very few areas where they interfere with each other. This is an exceptionally balanced partnership, and thus the three companies decided to form this alliance to utilize the versatile mount and provide a great benefit to various customers as the customers will now have access to a rich lens line-up and a comprehensive camera system.

A

When using a SIGMA filter, the hood can be attached and detached without any problem.

A

Yes. For L-Mount, connecting the separately sold USB DOCK UD-11 to a PC via a USB cable and using the free SIGMA Optimization Pro software enables update of the firmware as well as setting of the focus ring. The USB DOCK is currently not available for Sony E-mount.

A

TSC is a type of polycarbonate with a thermal expansion rate similar to that of aluminum. If materials with different thermal expansion rates are used in combination, naturally, the change in magnitude when temperature changes will differ. In consideration of this, clearance is required. This clearance can be minimized if the differences in thermal expansion rates are small.
By using a combination of TSC and aluminum parts which share similar thermal expansion rates, it is possible to manufacture a highly accurate lens barrel with a minimum deviation.

A

A stepping motor is used to drive the focus, enabling high-speed, highly accurate control of the focusing lens position so that it is also very quiet.

A

Breathing is kept to a minimum so that it is also suitable for video recordings that involve focusing while shooting.

A

We did not unify the filter sizes in order to maximize the optimum size and optical performance for each lens.

A

The SIGMA 24mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary is designed with an emphasis on aperture value and performance, achieving an F value that is more than one stop brighter.

The SIGMA 24mm F3.5 DG DN | Contemporary is designed with an emphasis on compact size and close-up shooting capability. Although it has a less bright aperture, it achieves a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 in a more portable body.

A

No. For this reason, we have also included a plastic lens cap. Also, please note that it cannot be used together with the metal cap hood.

A

A stepping motor is used to drive the focus, enabling high-speed, highly accurate and silent AF. Breathing is also kept to a minimum.

A

The lens was designed to control aberration variation that could achieve high resolution when focused on distant objects as well as beautiful back bokeh when shooting at close range.

A

It is a sensor that can detect the position of the focus lens with a high degree of precision by using a magnetic signal. This is done in real time to improve AF accuracy.

A

The Zoom Torque switch changes the resistance of the zoom ring. T (Tight) sets a greater zoom ring torque and helps prevent the lens from extending under its own weight when it is pointed upwards or downwards. S (Smooth) sets a lower zoom ring torque, allowing the lens to zoom in and out smoothly.
For added convenience when carrying the lens, the zoom ring can be locked at wide end.

A

If the Zoom Torque switch won’t move freely, rotate the zoom ring slightly and slide the switch to the T (Tight) position.

A

The lens foot can be removed using the supplied hex wrench.

A

All SIGMA tripod sockets (replaceable lens foot type)* can be attached on 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Sports. Please remove and attach the bolts that fix the foot in position using the supplied hex wrench.

*Tripod sockets replaceable with the TS-121 are TS-61, TS-81, TS-91 and TS-101.

A

A

The lens has a dust and splash resistant structure. Although this construction allows the lens to be used in light rain, it is not the same as being waterproof, so please prevent large amounts of water from splashing on the lens. It is often impractical to repair the internal mechanism, lens elements and electric components if they are damaged by water.

A

We are planning to deliver new lenses in mounts that we believe most suitable for the development concept of each product.

A

A

The working distance of the 105mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art is 82.4 cm; it is 78.1 cm with a hood on.

A

In terms of functionality, there is clear difference in how smooth the AF is with the continuous AF. We recommend you use an L-Mount lens if you shoot with the continuous AF or shoot video often.

A

The combination of focus mechanism (i.e. an extending, floating focus mechanism) with the focus-by-wire system used in the SIGMA 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO Art presents certain concerns over affinity with the Nikon AF-P (the “P” refers to pulse motor, also known as stepping motor) that affects user experience. For this reason, we are putting the development of a Nikon mount version on hold.

* Issues with user experience?
The lens remains extended and would not go back into place when the camera is turned off, which means you will need to cover the lens with your hand and push it back into place manually before turning the camera off. With other mounts, the lens will go back into place automatically when you turn off the camera.

A

E-mount interchangeable lenses (DG) have the AF drive control program and high-speed communication tuned for each lens, which allow them to provide a level of high-speed AF comparable to that with mirrorless lenses (DC DN and DG DN). They also support the AF-C mode, which the MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 does not, and have improved AF drive quality to ensure smooth movement. Because they are designed exclusively for E-mounts, they have high levels of stiffness.

A

The following three kinds of correction are available: peripheral illumination correction, chromatic aberration, and distortion correction.

Note:
・Function available on supported cameras only. Available corrections or auto correction functionality may vary depending on the camera model.
・On cameras where lens aberration correction is controlled with ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’ in the camera menu, please set all aberration correction functions to ‘ON'(AUTO).

A

It is available on the Art, Contemporary, and Sports lines of interchangeable lenses.

However, you may need to update your lens firmware depending on the timing of your purchase of the lens.

A

Yes, the Sony E-Mount interchangeable lenses support the AF-C mode.

A

They provide the following three kinds of correction: peripheral illumination correction, chromatic aberration, and distortion correction. Available functions may vary depending on different camera models, however.

A

Please address all questions about Leica products to Leica Camera AG. The alliance can provide no information about planned products.

Please see the following page for details and download of the firmware.

SIGMA fp firmware download page

A

A mobile battery that complies with the USB BC standard is available. However, we cannot guarantee products that have not been verified by us.

A

The shutter speed for flash photography at fp L is 1/15 second or less. However, when 14bit DNG (default DNG setting is 14bit) is selected, it will be 1/10 second or less.

A

Monitoring is possible with the optional SIGMA ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER EVF-11.

A

The fp L does not have a time-lapse function. You need to use interval shooting and synthesize it like a movie with commercial software.

A

No, it does not.

A

It is possible. However, it depends on the amount of current supplied from the USB terminal of the PC used.

A

It is a function that you can save the shooting settings and camera settings in the QR code and share it on social media etc.

A

Cinema DNG is the only RAW that can be recorded directly with the camera. Prores RAW and Blackmagic RAW are supported for RAW recorded by external devices via HDMI.

A

Director’s viewfinder is a feature that allows users to check different angles of view with different lens combinations in videography. With the fp, when you choose the name of the brand, camera model, and other settings, you can simulate shots achieved with the settings chosen.

A

Yes, you can use any of the Art, Contemporary, or Sports lines of lenses and use all the features by using the MOUNT CONVERTER MC-21.

A

The feature is used to correct a phenomena where a shift in colour occurs near the edges of an image (i.e. colour shading).

When you are using an L-Mount lens, colour shading is automatically corrected, although you can fine-tune it manually.

The colour shading correction feature is also available with a lens attached using a non-SIGMA mount adaptor, which means you can use the feature when you shoot with an old lens.

You can set colour shading in the “Lens Optical Correction” on the third tab under SHOOT in the menu.

A

The firmware can be updated in-camera. All L-Mount alliance lenses support firmware updates in-camera.

SIGMA fp Firmware download

A

Because the electronic image stabilization corrects camera shake by compositing multiple images in a single release, it is not available for shooting a moving object or flash photography.

A

You can select the electronic image stabilization on the fp only when the in-lens optical image stabilization is turned off. In addition, it may not be available to choose with certain settings, such as when shooting DNG or at extended ISO settings.

When you place the cursor over an grayed-out item on the menu, a message will appear that explains why the item cannot be selected.

A

Cinemagraphs are animated GIFs where only a part of the images moves. You can create a cinemagraph using video files you have taken on the fp

The cinemagraph feature is supported in firmware Ver. 2.00 or later.
SIGMA fp Firmware download

A

No, the fp does not support log shooting.

A

Shutter angle is one of the ways to set the time of exposure for video. With the fp, it is the STILL mode shutter speed.

This represents the time of exposure as a percentage of the time per frame, which is determined by the frame rate (e.g. 1/30 second at 30 fps) expressed as an angle where 360° is 100%.

For instance, 180° at 30 fps is 1/60 of a second; 180° at 120 fps is 1/240 of a second.

A

The fp has features that support full-fledged video shooting, and Timecode is one of them. It is used to synchronize the time of multi-camera shots. This is used to synchronize not only for video but audio as well.

A

Please refer to the following page for information on recommended media for use in video shooting in CinemaDNG format:

https://www.sigma-global.com/en/special/fp/acc_recommend/

A

The fp supports SD cards and SSDs (with USB 3.0).
Please refer to the following page for information on recommended media:

A

You can download 3D drawings of the fp on our website page linked below. They are in STEP format.

3D data download:  https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/fp/

A

We released the 3D design data in a hope that a number of manufacturers would develop accessories dedicated for the fp, in addition to those SIGMA develops. Its specifications such as the camera body dimensions and the screw positions are publicly available. It is our view that having third-party accessories available will help build better shooting systems, which will ultimately bring greater benefits to the users.

3D data download: https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/fp/

A

No, the fp does not have a time-lapse feature. You will need to shoot at an interval and make a composite video using software available on the market.

A

No, the fp does not support wi-fi.

A

No, you cannot use the electronic and optical stabilization at the same time on the fp.

A

Yes, you can mount the fp on a tripod using its screw holes for straps. When you attach a large lens, however, we recommend you use the tripod socket on the lens side.

A

We will only produce mirrorless cameras and stop producing DSLR cameras.

In live view on the P or A mode, the fp is designed to detect flickering automatically and adjust the shutter speed and exposure timing to minimize its effect on the image.

In the S or M mode, however, a shutter speed of the user’s choice is used, and flickering shadows may appear depending on the shutter speed used.

Likewise, the flicker reduction does not work when the camera is set to continuous shooting, such EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) or HDR.

The name “fp” comes from the words “fortissimo” and “pianissimo,” which mean “very loud” and “very quiet,” respectively, in music.

The name was given as it embodies the concept of this camera that is created to a range of shooting settings from a minimalist, simple and light setup to a full-blown cinematography work.

A

It has been our view that the Foveon sensors are the best choice for products whose primary focus is still image quality, and it still remains so. However, for the fp, which is a camera of an entirely new genre, we chose to use a Bayer sensor as we decided that it would be the best overall.

A

Unlike regular sensors that capture information of just one color per pixel, the SIGMA sensors are revolutionary full-color image sensors that are capable of capturing full-color information with a three-layer structure. This removes the necessity for color interpolation, and makes images in principle free of color artifacts, which means that there is no need for a low-pass filter. Foveon sensors can capture all the light and color information, creating high-resolution three-dimensional images that look very realistic.

The internal mechanism of the SIGMA PL mount cine lenses are very different from EF mount and E mount. Therefore to change the mount, we need to dismantle the whole lens. To guarantee the performance of the lens once dismantled, it requires the same exclusive equipment as building a lens from scratch.
Considering the delivery date and cost, we have not covered PL mount for the mount conversion service.

Yes, they may be used on conventional still camera bodies, but the Program Mode, Shutter Speed Priority Mode, and AF functions will not be accessible.

A

The current models of our cine lens line-up are not compatible with teleconverters.

A

Although we are currently unable to discuss any such plans, we will be providing further details on the development and marketing of our cine lenses on the SIGMA website going forward.

A

SIGMA cine lenses have the resolving power needed to make them fully ready for 6-8K shooting, as well as a design that minimizes ghosting and flare. The lineup also includes models that offer full-frame image sensor coverage. SIGMA cine lenses combine outstanding image quality and compactness in a way.

A

Our cine lenses feature a completely updated mechanical system. We have also given them a choice range of functions to optimize them for modern cinematography. Further, each of our cine lenses features dust- and -splash-proof construction and larger angles of rotation for the iris, focus, and zoom rings.

A

The cine lenses each have models compatible with the Canon EF mount, Sony E-mount, and Arri PL mount, allowing them to be used by the main cine cameras on the market.

A

Yes, it is the same in order to leverage the outstanding optical performance of SIGMA GLOBAL VISION lenses, which have earned a worldwide reputation for their excellence. The lens cells, aperture mechanical system, and overall optical system are the same as that of the still photo lens of the same focal length.

A

The SIGMA CINE LENS are compatible with SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 and SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-31. MC-11 allows SIGMA lenses with the EF mount to be used with Sony E-mount camera bodies. MC-31 allows SIGMA lenses with the PL mount to be used with L-Mount camera bodies.

The SIGMA USB DOCK can be used to update firmware. For further information on the SIGMA USB DOCK, click here.

A

The lenses we have currently launched all have the same front diameter, but their lengths are all different. All of the lenses have the same gear diameter and positions as well. Respective numbers for future lenses are still to be determined.

A

Yes, they have a dust- and -splash-proof structure (the same as 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports).

A

It depends on the model. In certain models, focus breathing may seem to occur more than in lenses designed exclusively as cine lenses.

A

In general, a perfectly parfocal lens production is nearly impossible. SIGMA goes through great lengths to reduce focus shift throughout the zoom range. However, as is the case with most cine zoom lenses, the SIGMA cine zooms are nearly parfocal.

A

The lens mount establishes an electronic connection with the camera, allowing lens data to be transmitted (focal length, shooting distance, aperture, etc.). The data that is recorded varies by camera.

Note: This feature is not included on PL mount lenses that are not compatible with i/ Technology.

A

The screw diameter is 0.25 inches and the distance between screws is 15mm.

Product Information

A

It can not be used.

The ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER EVF-11’s USB-C terminal is for SSD connection only.

A

On June 3rd, 2021, we released firmware Ver3.0 that allows you to use ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER EVF-11 with SIGMA fp.

Please see the following page for details and download of the firmware.

SIGMA fp firmware download page

A

Monitoring is possible with the optional SIGMA ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER EVF-11.

A

Yes, you can use any of the Art, Contemporary, or Sports lines of lenses and use all the features by using the MOUNT CONVERTER MC-21.

A

The SIGMA SA-mount and the CANON EF-mount lenses can be used with the SIGMA TC-1401 (1.4×) and TC-2001 (2.0×) teleconverters.

With auto focus shooting, the TC-1401 can be used on the long end, while the TC-2001 requires manual focus for the entire range. Please note that the TC-1411 or the TC-2011 cannot be used with L-Mount lenses.

A

In terms of functionality, there is clear difference in how smooth the AF is with the continuous AF. We recommend you use an L-Mount lens if you shoot with the continuous AF or shoot video often.

A

Not at this time. Firmware updates will be available through the camera body, and there are currently no plans to release X Mount lenses compatible with teleconverters.

A

You need to remove the EVF-11 to use the HDMI output.
Recording to an external SSD is possible by using the SSD dedicated terminal on the side of the EVF-11.

A

Since the tilt angle can be set in the range of 0 to 90 degrees, it is possible to shoot at the waist position.
In addition, since it is equipped with a headphone terminal, voice monitoring is possible.

A

It does not have a function to switch the display automatically.
Please switch with the EVF / LCD switch on the side of the EVF-11.

A

The MOUNT CONVERTER MC-21 applies to lenses in the Art, Contemporary, and Sports lines.New products are being added in order, so please check the following page for a list of compatible lenses.

Mount Converter MC-21

A

It is because the AF control system of the Art, Contemporary, and Sports lines of lenses is different from those of the lenses of earlier generations.

A

It is a screw hole to fix the MC-21 on the fp. This helps further reduce any gaps between the camera body and the converter. It is particularly effective when attaching a large-sized ultra-telephoto lens.

A

No, they cannot be used in combination with teleconverter.
